Long-O New Forest

IMGP1584

Today I did the Wimborne long-o in the New Forest. It was a beautiful sunny day (at least to start with) and running across the icy heathland was a great pleasure. In fact, I spent too much mental energy marvelling at how much fun I was having at the start of the course and consequently made quite a few mistakes.

Things improved when I turned the map over at the (just over) halfway point and from then on my splits improved. I even felt more lively, which was strange as I’d just run 13km.

Anyway, I was successful: (a) avoided being followed by the boxer dog who trailed a good number of the competitors round the course and hopefully ended up with his owners by the end of the day; (b) first woman (being the only woman to finish, this wasn’t difficult); (c) wasn’t last; (d) feel as though I could run another day!
