Wet Wessex

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

The weather meant that the Dorset Delight didn’t quite live up to its name this year. It was drizzly and pretty damp underfoot. I had a few wanderings off the straight line route, especially on the open. I think it was probably the late night on Saturday, combined with the clock change that addled my brain.

This was a new area for me (Holmsley and Dur Hill) and I have to admit to being a bit disappointed. It wasn’t as nice as other New Forest areas. Nonetheless, it was good to get out.

Running in Hampshire

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

We were meant to be travelling up to the Lake District at the weekend but the JOK Chasing Sprint was cancelled because of snow in the parking field. This meant we could spend a relaxing weekend at home. The weather was lovely and sunny so we went for a couple of runs.

The Grizzly 2006

Monday, March 13th, 2006

On Sunday we went to the Grizzly,
The weather was awfully drizzly,
I ran through a bog
Said no to the grog
And finished with a big grin on my face!

(if you can think of a better last line, let me know!)

Anyway, the race was fun. I treated it more like a long training run for the first half but then realised that I could run through mud faster than anyone around me and that I seemed to have quite a lot of energy left (something to do with the jelly babies the marshalls kept doling out!) so I speeded up a bit and finished feeling relatively fresh, which was lucky, as it took me at least 45 mins to find my husband and the car keys after I’d finished.

Anyway, results of the grizzly are here.

We stayed in a nice B&B in Axminster the night before with friendly owners. It was called Highfield Bed and Breakfast.

Long-O New Forest

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

* WPG2 Plugin Not Validated *Today I did the Wimborne long-o in the New Forest. It was a beautiful sunny day (at least to start with) and running across the icy heathland was a great pleasure. In fact, I spent too much mental energy marvelling at how much fun I was having at the start of the course and consequently made quite a few mistakes.
